An operatically trained singer, Andrew Keoghan was raised in New Zealand, where his mother taught piano and father worked as a plant scientist. Also a skilled violinist, strings figure prominently in Andrew’s music, alongside dreamy vocals, and found sounds. There's a melding of the esoteric and familiar, a memorable pop sensibility, while also pulling influence from traditional romantic string arrangements, musical theater, and analog electronic pattern music.
Born on the Caribbean island of Antigua, travel and wide-ranging musical cultures have played an important role in his music education. In 2006 he journeyed through South America writing songs, and learning percussion in Rio De Janeiro. Andrew studied classical composition and singing during his university years in New Zealand, performing in Puccini's Turandot.
Now a Composer based in Los Angeles, Andrew’s soundtrack made alongside singer-songwriter Reb Fountain for the 3-part documentary series Escaping Utopia, won Best Original Score at the 2024 New Zealand Television Awards.
Andrew’s score for the 2023 Bloomberg documentary RUIN added a murky and ambiguous layer to Director Shern Sharma’s debut feature, chronicling the rise and fall of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The music, centering around Andrew’s home upright piano, combines decaying synths, lush strings, and distant vocals.
He scored the opening title theme to the primetime CBS network series Tough As Nails, and has composed the music for three Warner Brothers International series, including the New Zealand network dark comedy Fresh Eggs.
As a songwriter and recording artist, Andrew has released two critically-acclaimed albums, including Arctic Tales Divide - a Taite Prize finalist and New Zealand Herald local album of the year, & Every Orchid Offering, with the later likened in aesthetic to the music of David Bowie, Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors by the music tastemaker Stereogum.
